Thanks to one of their senior members having the M-Sport livery applied to his stunning Mk2 Focus RS, the Shropshire ST & RS Car Club received a personal invitation from M-Sport for a private tour of all their facilities!

Nineteen members from the club jumped into 10 of their best Blue Ovals and headed north to M-Sport’s HQ in Cumbria. The cars to make the trip included a fantastic mix of what the club is all about, including Fiesta STs, Focus STs, an, of course, the M-Sport liveried Focus RS!

Travelling in convoy the guys and gals from the group made their way from North Shropshire to Cockermouth in north Cumbria, enjoying some amazing views along the way followed by a relaxing evening in the hotel ready for the following morning’s activities.

A very early morning ensued, kicking off with a full English breakfast (as any good show day should!) and then of course out came the polishes and waxes! After all, the cars had to look their best for their big day!

Arriving at M-Sport for their private tour, the club was greeted by their tour guide Roger, and M-Sport’s event organiser, Julia.

The tour started in the boardroom, which doubles as a trophy room for all the silverware the firm has won over the past years, and is continuing to add to today! Here they were greeted with coffee and refreshments.

Following this they made their way down to the M-Sport museum, where the team looks after a fabulous display of both classic and modern Ford rally cars. Some of which were raced by M-Sport’s head honcho, Malcolm Wilson, himself.

The tour then continued into the main assembly and service area. Here the club members observed master fitters at work, building future race-winning cars and (hopefully!) future WRC Champions!

Obviously these are all very closely guarded secrets and M-Sport are very picky about who they allow in to see the cars being built! As such, all club members were sworn to secrecy and told that no photographs could be taken! It’s all top-secret stuff in the WRC!

Then, saving the best for last, as all the club members were gathered at the front of the main house for a few final photos, who should appear? None other than the main man himself, Malcolm Wilson!

He made his way to join the club so he could chat fast Fords and sign autographs. He was even on hand to sign the bonnet of Graham Harley’s M-Sport-inspired Focus RS that started the whole epic journey. Club members report that Graham almost fainted with excitement – we’re not surprised!

The guys and gals of Shropshire ST & RS Car Club all thoroughly enjoyed this once-in-a-lifetime experience and would like to thank M-Sport and all of their staff for making such an excellent day out possible. Plus, to top off such a fantastic event, the club even got mentioned on M-Sport’s Facebook page, where they were referred to as ‘super fans’.

Keep your eyes peeled to see some of the Shropshire ST & RS group’s cars at shows and events throughout the summer, and if you bump into any members of the club be sure to ask them about their trip to M-Sport as they’ll only be too happy to relive the experience!
