This Saturday (August 13) there is a gathering of RS200s at Chelmsford Museum and a reunion of all the Ford folk that worked at Ford Competitions Dept at Boreham from the early ’60s to the late ’90s.

RS200s are awesome – fact.

On the day there will be approximately 12 RS200s on display including works cars B200 YEV & B200 AYD, plus Robert Droogmans’ Marlboro-liveried car and the yellow Evo car.

As well as the static display of RS200s, there will be the Hart turbo-powered Beatrice Lola F1 car that Patrick Tambay drove around the circuit plus hopefully Stig Blomqvist’s Sierra Cosworth will make an appearance too!

The day is part of the museum exhibition of Boreham Airfield, Wings, Wheels and Dwellings. Many of the original Boreham mechanics are coming along, so if you fancy soaking up just a little bit of the Boreham atmosphere, come on over.

The guys at Mach 2 Racing are continuing their fabulous obsession with the legendary Pikes Peak hillclimb, taking their nutty 900bhp RS200 to the event once more next week.

They have been posting updates on the car, to be driven by Mark Rennison, on YouTube, but we have gathered the clips together here for you to check out the monster in action before the historic hillclimb takes place on Sunday, June 26.

The 2011-spec RS200 has been built to compete at Pikes Peak by Peter Bennett and the boys at MDV. The engine has been built specifically to accelerate out of the course’s infamous slow speed corners by Geoff Page Racing.

That engine is a full-on 2.4-litre BDTE, and the rest of the spec list, required to cope with the 900bhp and 920Nm of torque, is eye-watering.

The brakes are the latest from Alcon, while the suspension is Black Art Designs Ltd three-way adjustable remote canister units. The turbo has been built by Garrett in USA and runs a specific altitude compressor. The engine management system has been built specially by Life racing systems, the pistons within this engine were made by J-E and a new state-of-the-art crankshaft has been produced for the massive torque generated from this engine and both crank and rods are designed by GRP.

The hillclimb itself is run on a 12.42-mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9390 feet and finishes at the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak. As the drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps muscle strength. The thin air also robs engines of 30% of their power at the summit – hence the need for so much of it in the first place!

Ford fans can relive eight classic years from the WRC in this new DVD from motorsport specialists Duke – The Tour de Corse Rally 1984-1991.

The action-crammed compilation features nearly four hours of archive footage tracing the complete story of every Corsican rally from that era, and the dramatic changes the event brought to the sport.

Didier Auriol’s amazing three wins a row, which included Ford’s first factory WRC win for almost a decade in 1988, features among the drama.

The victory in the famous Q8-liveried Group A 2wd Sapphire Cossie was achieved against the backdrop of massive 4wd Lancia domination that season – in fact, this was the only rally in 1988 that a Lancia didn’t win.

The DVD also features highlights from the Group B era, including the brutal Ford RS200 and its rivals tearing round the tiny French island.

And when the Fast Ford web monkey was trawling t’internet the other day, he found some proof of that – an RS200 cop car.

In what is very obviously a promotional photo (no other cars around, two brand-new Fords in shot…), Essex Police got a go in a liveried-up RS200 to ‘pull over’ a Moonstone 3-Door for laughs. Good work if you can get it.

Coys are holding a motorsport auction to coincide with this year’s Autosport show – and in amongst the lots are a few awesome fast Fords. How does the idea of owning an RS200 Evo grab you? Or an ex-McRae Martini-liveried Focus WRC? Or how about an RS500?

The Focus was driven by Colin McRae and Nicky Grist on the 2001 Rally De France (Tour de Corse) finishing 11th overall, in the 2002 Swedish Rally (finishing 6th overall) – but the one we remember is the 2002 Cyprus Rally where he led until five stages from the end, rolled it twice, and still finished in 6th!

In recent years the car has been used in rounds of the British National Rally Championship, and has a Ford Motorsport engine delivering 300+bhp, X-Trac transmission and driveshafts, Reiger suspension and a carbon clutch. Price? If you need to ask…

The RS200 Evo that is up for auction at an estimate of £100,000-£130,000 was originally built for King Hussein of Jordan, the car was reckoned to be too dangerous for him and was therefore sold to Alan Fenwick in the UK, who was founder of the RS200 Owners Club.

In 2003 the car had a no expense spared engine refresh, and now generates 700+bhp on the dyno. The engine work was carried out by Harvey Gibb at Specialist Engine Services.

The car is described as being in superb condition, and comes with an extensive collection of RS200 documentation including original press packs and customer RS200 sales packs, owners’ clubs magazines, magazine articles and hundreds of rare photographs covering all aspects of RS200 development. Hummana hummana hummana.

Finally, there is a Moonstone RS500 with an estimate of £33-37,000. Recession – what recession? It is a beauty though – 418bhp, 18in alloys and many choice upgrades. Did we mention it’s Moonstone?
