Update on Dan’s Mondeo (294)
I was meant to be heading up to the Delphi HQ in Warwick to have my ongoing injector issues looked at, but another problem has reared its head.
When it comes ‘on boost’ there’s a noticeable whooshing sound that comes from the exhaust, coupled with a distinct lack of performance. Normally this is caused by the EGR-intercooler hose splitting, and it’s common on TDCi Mondeos. But my hose was pretty much new. So which other hose was split?
After a thorough search I found nothing, so it was off down to the workshop for me and Jamie to systematically remove every hose from the turbo to the inlet manifold, and remove the intercooler, EGR and inlet to check if there was a leak anywhere.
A road test revealed… that the whooshing was still there. Further investigation with a vacuum gauge and a length of tubing suggested that the turbo vacuum valve/solenoid may not be working correctly. I ordered a new one through fordpartsplus.net. It arrived the very next day, and I excitedly fitted it, thinking it would be the end to my boost problems. But no, the ‘whooshing’ sound is still there, and to be honest I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do next!
On a lighter note, you may have spotted the wind deflectors. There’s something a bit ’70s about them, but on the car they look good. I also noticed a large number of them on cars at FITP, so it looks like I’m not alone in liking them.
Thanks
