Update on Jamie’s Saph (294)
The rebuild is continuing and more stuff is finding its way back into the car.
This time it was the turn of the wiring system and dashboard, but as is always the way with modded motors it wasn’t just a case of simply bolting it all back in one place, some tweaks were needed first.
The original loom was fine to reuse again. I had to go through all the wires that are no longer needed such as interior lights, speakers, radio, etc. Then tidy everything up with some insulation tape.
I wasn’t expecting to have to relocate the fuse box. As the roll cage protrudes through the bulkhead onto the turret tops it interferes with where the fuse box would originally fit.
I eyed up the lower half of the dashboard and decided I would make the fuse box fit neatly where the old coin tray used to be. This was fine in principle, but was an absolute ball ache to make happen. After a couple of days spent trimming bits of plastic, cutting part of the dash support and general faffing around I managed to get the fuse box to fit.
Before I started refitting the dash I wanted to do something about its standard grey colour. While on the phone to Scott and the guys at Rally Design ordering a lovely pair of bucket seats, he told me about some VHT interior plastic paint they sell.
The final job was to fit the carpet that Paul at North Yorkshire RS Spares sent down for me. I know this is going to predominantly be a track car but there are a lot of good reasons for the carpet going back in. Firstly it makes the interior a bit more habitable for when I do use it on the road, and secondly it covers up all the welds on the floor from the roll cage and previous sill repairs.
Thanks
