Update on our Fiesta ST

The new wheel and tyre package is performing admirably, and we’ve been impressed by the extra grip generated by the 205 section Uniroyal Rainsport tyres. However, one thing that is more than a little irritating is the punishment the wheels have taken! With barely 1000miles on them the rim of the rear wheels are peppered with stone chips. None of which have been caused by a kerb or pothole.

It seems that the exposed rim (the tyres have a very slight stretch) combined with the wide wheels makes them a magnet for stone chips. On a lighter coloured wheel it wouldn’t be that noticeable, but on our dark wheels the chips are annoyingly obvious.

As usual the little ST has done a great job of hurtling us around the country, and on a recent trip to Bruntingthorpe (for the cover feature) it reminded us again how well rounded a package the Mountune conversion is. It’s as capable doing the daily commute as it is blasting up a runway at 130-plus mph.

One shortcoming of the Fiesta that is becoming increasingly more obvious is the seats. They look the part, but just aren’t that comfortable. It wasn’t until it popped into conversation that we realised we all suffer from a bad back after a lengthy drive in the car. Speaking to other ST owners reveals that we’re not alone, so the search is on for some new bum rests to save our spines and make long journeys less painful!
